The Year in Marfa
When to come, when not to, and what's worth planning around.
Marfa runs on a few annual rhythms · a handful of weekends draw a crowd, the rest of the year the town keeps to itself. This is the map. The tentpole events (marked in rose) move only slightly year to year; the seasonal notes are reliable. Plan around the busy weekends or lean into them, but plan either way.
Plan around the rhythm.
If you want the best weather: aim for October or April. Lock lodging months ahead.
If you want the town to yourself: aim for late January, early February, or weekday nights in any non-peak month.
If you want a festival weekend: the May and October tentpoles are worth planning a whole trip around. Everything else moves up a tier on those weekends · restaurants, lodging, traffic.
The weekly rhythm: Tuesday and Wednesday are the quietest restaurant days; plan dinner accordingly. The annual rhythm is one thing; the weekly rhythm is another.
