The Marfa Field Guide

Welcome to Marfa.

We're so glad you're here.

US 90, ANY EVENING

Why this guide exists

Marfa is small. About 1,700 people, three hours from the nearest major airport, built around a rhythm that doesn't translate well in advance. Restaurants close on days you wouldn't expect. Galleries keep hours that depend on the season. Some of the best places in town don't have a website by design.

None of that is unwelcoming · it's just how Marfa is. But it can leave a visitor guessing, and guessing usually means a long drive ending at a closed door.

We made this guide to keep you from doing that. Our job is to share honest, up-to-date information about what's open, what's happening, and how the town actually runs · so you can spend less time wondering and more time being here.

What this guide isn't

We don't pick favorites. We don't tell you what kind of trip to have. We don't push any one place, any one experience, or any one way to spend your time in Marfa. That's not what this is.

Whether you came for the art, the dark sky, a wedding, a long stretch of nothing, the drive itself, or a breakfast burrito at eight in the morning · that's the trip you should have. We're just here to help you find what you're looking for.

Whoever you are

This place is for everyone who arrives respectfully. Locals, weekenders, photographers, retreat groups, people on a once-in-a-lifetime road trip, kids in the back seat, dogs in the front seat, the curious, the skeptical, the regulars, the first-timers.

Whatever brought you here · you're welcome.

Marfa runs on its own clock. We're just here to help you read the time.
